I was a graduate student in the Entomology Department at the University of Georgia in the mid-1970s (while Dr. Atyeo was there), and my office area was in the museum adjacent to Dr. Atyeo's own lab/office area. Although I didn't have any classes or other "formal" interaction to Dr. Atyeo, I enjoyed conversations with him and advice I received when I had a question. I wasn't aware of his death until now, but felt an urge to look up people I had known and it was "his turn".

Dr. Ateyo was my insect taxonomy and acarology professor in the early 1970s. He encouraged me to continue in Entomology but also taught me about directly helping others. I changed to a career in medicine, pharmacology and nursing. The rewards were many including retiring at a very early age. My condolences to his family.

My deepest symphathy goes to Marilyn and family. I always will remember Tom when Arden and I came to Athens many years ago, where Arden was to join the Entomology Department. My children attended the same High School with the Atyeo boys and I always will remember them. My thoughts are with you all at this time. Hilda Lea, Jamestown, NC

Marilyn - deepest condolences from the both of us. Tom was always my favorite "father of a friend" during those formative boy scout and then high school years. Once I hit college, and traveled home for the occasional duplicate bridge evenings, I had great fun swapping jokes and kidding around with Tom, who was always well armed with his quick wit. I appreciate the close relationship you and Tom have had with my folks, and I look forward to continued stories of "Marilyn and Lola out on the town". I'm sure Tom will be along, also.
