William McKillip Obituary
A native of Riverside, IL, Dr. McKillip was the son of the late William Glenn McKillip and Ruth Bauld McKillip. He was a retired mathematics education professor at the University of Georgia, and successful author of children's math books.
Bill attended Knox College and the University of Illinois, and after college taught high school math for several years. He won a National Science Foundation scholarship to the University of California (San Diego) where he earned a Masters' Degree, and won a second NSF scholarship to the University of Virginia where he earned a doctorate in Mathematics Education. In 1965, Bill joined the faculty of UGA, and retired in 1999. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, archeology, and travel.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Stybr McKillip of Athens, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage; sons, David William McKillip and wife, Peggy of Bowling Green, KY, Daniel Miles McKillip and wife, Patti McKellar of Dearborn Heights, MI, and Douglas Carl McKillip and wife, Mary of Athens; daughters, Victoria McKillip Christian and husband, Charles of Phoenix, AZ and Jennifer McKillip Little and husband, David of Athens; sister, Glenna McKillip Linder of Riverside, IL. Bill was "Papa" to his 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Friendship Presbyterian Church on US 441.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1841 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA 30329.

I was saddened to learn of Dr. McKillip's recent death. He was my major advisor for my Ed.D. at UGA in 1973. He was still "green behind the ears" back then. As the easy-going person that he was, we worked well together; he let me be independent and do my own thing. I still like that approach. One story (I think) he told me was during summers he taught at a community college on Georgia coast. This allowed the kids to vacation at the beach each summer. True or not, I always thought it was a neat story. A nice guy to know! Sweet memories for you all.

My deepest condolances to the McKillip family. I was a student in Mathematics Education from 1967 to 1971 and Dr. McKillip was one of my professors. As one of the very few minority students there, he made me feel very welcome at UGA and I will always be grateful.

Dr. McKillip was/is an inspiration. Please do accept my deepest condolences on your loss.. This is certainly a loss to the profession and a personal loss to many of us that had the privilege of sharing coffee with him in the years that we were in Georgia.
