Thomas Lang, 85, died July 13, 2014 at Heritage Nursing Home in Athens, GA. Tom began having increased health issues earlier in the year that took him to the hospital the last week of March. From there he went to Heritage for therapy but never recovered. Since Thelma's funeral on June 11, Tom began a precipitous decline.

Tom and his wife Thelma are native Georgians, and Tom is native to Athens. They were married on March 25, 1956 and recently marked 58 years together. Tom served several churches in the Athens area during the 1950's: Oconee Heights Baptist as pastor; Prince Avenue Baptist as associate pastor, and; Colbert Baptist as pastor. In 1960 Tom moved to West Virginia where he pastored two churches, First Baptist Fairlea and Fairlawn Baptist in Parkersburg. He concluded his ministry in WV by serving as the Religious Education director for the WV State Convention. In 1976 Tom moved his family back to Athens to pastor Oconee Heights for the second time. He became Director of Missions in 1984 where he served her 70+ churches for approximately nine years. During that time and since his retirement from Sarepta, he has served as interim pastor of numerous churches in and beyond the Athens area. Tom answered the call to ministry at the age of 15. He has influenced dozens of churches and thousands of individuals for God's Kingdom over the span of 70 years.
Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (June 9, 2014), and three of his siblings: Betty Thorne, Robert Lang, and David Lang. He is survived by his younger sister, Anne Britton; his two sons Andrew (Mary) and Stuart (Tania); and 4 grandchildren, Marcus (Robyn), April (Skip), Caleb (Kaley), and Rebekah.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening, July 15 from 5-8 at Bridges Funeral Home in Athens, GA. A public funeral service will be held at Hull Baptist Church in Hull, GA on Wednesday, July 16 at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Randy Crowe officiating. A private interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens for family only.
In lieu of flowers Tom asked that any donations made in his memory be given to the Hull Baptist Church or to the Gideons International.
