WILLIAM DANIEL HARRIS ("Bill"), 84, of Watkinsville, Georgia passed away peacefully on July 23, 2014. Born in Atlanta, GA at the start of the Depression, Bill lost his father at an early age but benefitted from a strong family network, embedding in him the solid family commitment he carried with him throughout life. Bill grew up in Charlotte N.C. and went to Duke University on a golf scholarship. After graduating from Duke, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and became a 1st lieutenant during the Korean War. Afterwards he entered a corporate sales training program. His sales territory included Dallas, Texas where he met his future wife, Lois, a flight attendant for American Airlines. Bill had a rewarding sales career throughout his life spending his early years in Pennsylvania before moving back to Georgia.
Married 59 years, Bill & Lois enjoyed raising their three children, all college graduates. After retirement, they settled in Hartwell, GA and enjoyed traveling the world, visiting Alaska, Europe, Australia, China, New Zealand, and South America. Bill had a love of nature and U.S. History, especially reading books on World War II.
Bill leaves behind his beloved wife, Lois McCracken Harris, and his three children; Donna Harris and her husband David Smith of Catalina Island, CA; Daniel Harris of Atlanta, GA ; and David Harris and his spouse Ronda Harris and their children Nathan & Zachary Harris of Johns Creek, GA. Also surviving is Bill's brother, Thomas B. Harris, of Charlotte, NC.
