Mary Ruth Hembree Stancell, 72, died July 28, 2014.

A native of Athens, she was a daughter of the late Felton and Susie Meadow Hembree and was preceded in death by a sister, Katie Lou Hembree and brothers, Bill and J.W. Hembree.

Survivors include her husband, James C. (Sonny) Stancell, Jr.; daughters, Sharon Little of Crawford and Brenda Stancell of Athens; sister, Iree H. Logan of Athens; grandchild, Lauren Little of Crawford; a number of nieces and nephews.

She was a former employee of UGA Cooperative Extension Service and was owner of Athens Memory Gardens from 1977 – 1997. Mary Ruth was a longtime active member of East Athens Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a youth leader and choir member.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Ray Wuerzer officiating. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hembree, Ricky Wills, Mike Hembree, Rusty Hembree, Scott Hembree and Ryan Wills.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
