George Cowan Ledford, 75, of Bogart, GA passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

A native of Sharon, Georgia, Mr. Ledford was the son of the late James C. Ledford and Caudine Stanford Ledford and was preceded in death by a sister, Jimmie Ledford Williams. Mr. Leford graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute in 1954 in Crawfordville; Reinhardt College in 1956; attended Georgia State University, and served in the United States Army Reserves. After retiring from AT & T as an operations supervisor, Mr. Ledford was employed by Sprint as an operations supervisor and worked as a census taker with the United States Census Department. Before moving to Athens, Mr. Ledford had been active in the Tillman United Methodist Church in Smyrna, where he served as a trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and youth group leader. After moving to Athens, Mr. Ledford became an active member of Bogart United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Cropper Ledford of Bogart; sons, Stephen Kent Ledford and wife, Kimberly of Winterville and Jeffrey Thomas Ledford and wife, Lisa of Kennesaw; daughter, Susan Jane Ledford-Cullen of Bogart; sister, Mary Jeanette Ledford Ricketson of Greenwood, SC; eight grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2PM Saturday, July 7th at Bogart United Methodist Church with Rev Megan Gomez. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made the Bogart United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 58, Bogart, GA 30622.
