David Charles "Tiny" Hanson died peacefully at home and went to his mansion in Heaven on March 24, 2013.
Mr. Hanson was born on March 1, 1949, to Wendel Eugene Hanson Sr. and Hazel Johnson Hanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Wendel Eugene Hanson Jr.; sisters, Carol Quaggin and Ruth Kent; and brother-in-law, Melvin Perdue. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Debra Rhoden "Rudi" Hanson; sister, Marty Perdue; sister-in-law, Gail Hanson; father- and mother-in-law, Ellis and Beverly Rhoden; brother- and sister-in-law, Stephen and Debra Rhoden; sister- and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Toni Holliman; sister-in-law, Jean Lowry; many nieces and nephews that he loved so much, and special family, Allie and Josh Cowart, Joseph Cowart, and Elisha Nichols.
Mr. Hanson was retired from the Athens Police Department after 38.5 years of law enforcement. He was the Constable of Municipal Court and Clarke County Sheriff's Office. In 1976, he was shot in the line of duty, which led to a kidney and pancreas transplant on April 12, 2000, along with numerous health problems.
A 32nd degree Scottish Rite and York Rite Mason, Mr. Hanson was a member and Past Master of the John H. Jones lodge, Past Master of the 8th District, and member of the Director Staff of the Yaarab Temple.
Mr. Hanson was a member of the Meadow Baptist Church and loved his church family. He was always joking and pulling pranks with co-workers, family, and friends. He always saw the positive in everything.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, in Danielsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, at Meadow Baptist Church, in Comer, with the Rev. Mike Sarna officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery
