Randy Frank Elmore, 70, died Saturday, April 26, 2013 at his residence.
A native of Granite Falls, N.C., he was the son of the late James C. and Marie Marshall Elmore. Randy retired from Kennesaw State University as a Professor of Education and had also worked at the University of Georgia, Georgia Southern University, Northeast Georgia RESA and Piedmont College (Athens). He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens, a member and former president of Oconee River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, was an Athens Area Master Gardner and member of the Phi Delta Kappa Professional Association for Educators. Some of his hobbies included gardening, fishing, biking, running, traveling, beekeeping, and hiking. He hiked the entire Appalachian Trail.
Survivors include his wife Martha Yates Elmore; children: Lee (Molly) Elmore of North Potomac, Maryland, Ellen (Stouffer) Ackerman of Athens, Georgia; sisters: Teresa (Robert) Clark of Lenoir, North Carolina, Sheila (Gary) Pearson of Granite Falls, North Carolina; grandchildren: Rachel, Rebecca and Katherine Elmore and Gabriel Ackerman.
A memorial service will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Athens with Rev. J. Hunter Coleman and Dr. Glenn Doak officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the YWCO Building Fund, 562 Research Drive, Athens, Ga. 30605, with checks payable to YWCO; First Presbyterian Church, 185 East Hancock Ave., Athens, Ga. 30601; or to the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center, c/o Ralph H. Hruban, MD, 401 North Broadway, Weinberg, 2242, Baltimore, M.D. 21231-2410 with checks payable to "Johns Hopkins University".
