James de la Perriere Obituary

James Ernest de la Perriere, age 86, of Athens, died on March 25, 2014.
Born in Hoschton on October 22, 1927, to Homer Clarence de la Perriere and Lois Arnold de la Perriere, Jim was educated in the public schools of Jackson and Barrow County. In 1949, he graduated from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the SAE fraternity and a linesman for the UGA football team. He attended the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi, and served honorably in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
In real estate for most of his life, Jim worked for the Coca Cola Company in the 1950s, helped develop the Forrest Heights and Pine Forrest subdivisions of Athens in the 1960s, and served as a Clarke County Commissioner in the 1970s. He was an avid football fan, a life-long animal lover, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens.
Jim is survived by his niece, Donna de la Perriere, of San Francisco, Calif.
Private funeral services will be conducted for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Athens Area Humane Society.
Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, is in charge of the arrangements.

What a great man Mr. Jim was. Katherine and I were always glad to see his warm smile at The Waffle House, where we always ran into him at breakfast. He was a great friend of my parents through the years.

Donna -- you know I have such fond memories of Jim, as does my mom. We wish you peaceful healing during this time. On the day I heard, I went to a local diner in Tucker and had a typical southern meal (creamed corn, cornbread, mac and cheese and fresh sliced tomatoes) as I privately celebrated his life. I hope he would have appreciated that. xoxo
