Mrs. Lavinia Weir McDonald, 85, died Nov. 26, 2018, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, S.C.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, 8380 Ashford Ferry Road, Carlisle, SC 29031 with Reverend Terry Wingate officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 30, 2018, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester, SC 29706.
Born Feb. 16, 1933, in Chapin, S.C., Mrs. McDonald was a daughter of the late Leslie Banks Weir and Cora Raines Weir. She was a graduate of Blackstock High School and Winthrop College with a Bachelor of Science in Health & Physical Education. Mrs. McDonald was a retired Chester County Physical Education Teacher having taught in Charlotte, N.C. City Schools and Chester County Schools. Mrs. McDonald received the State Conservation Teacher of the Year, State Wild Life Instructor of the Year and Chester County Teacher of the Year during the 1982-1983 school year. She was also active in the Chester County Soil and Water Conservation District. Mrs. McDonald was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church, having served as church clerk, Sunday School Teacher and leading several youth programs.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Thomas Elliott McDonald; and her sister, Eloise Weir Blanks.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra McDonald of Fort Collins, Colo. and Harriet M. and Dana Simmons of Clemson, S.C.; one grandson, Edward Dana Simmons IV of Clemson, S.C.; twin granddaughters, Maggie and Kate Simmons of Clemson, S.C.; one niece, Rinne Blanks Cannon of Clemson, S.C.; and several nephews.
Memorials may be made to Beaver Creek Baptist Church, 2953 Ashford Road, Blackstock, SC 29014; or Hospice Care of S.C., 173 Columbia St., Chester, SC 29706. Please designate whom the memorial is for on the check.
