Pressley Noel Jackson Sr., born May 25, 1926, son of the late John Jack Jackson and Lessie Dewey Baker Jackson of Great Falls and a resident of Mobile since 1973, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013.
Mr. Jackson was area manager of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 28 years and earned the distinction of No. 1 Area Sales Manager in the Nation. He transferred to Mobile to handle the merger of the GM&O Railroad with the ICG Railroad. After his retirement from the railroad, he served the Alabama State Docks as Port Representative for eight years. Mr. Jackson was a U.S. Navy veteran of the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of Springhill Baptist Church, a Master Mason, a past member of the Elks Club and Propeller Club and the Mobile Traffic and Transportation Club. He also served as District Chairman of the United Way and served on the Board of Stewards of McKendree Methodist Church in Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth McGee Jackson, and infant son, Jeff.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Frances Crouch Jackson; two children, Pressley Noel Jackson Jr. (Dianna) and Susan Reneé Cole (fiance' Jimmy Worley); stepson, Johnie Ray Hendren Jr. (Carol); three grandchildren, Samantha Reneé Cole, Jacquelyn Olivia Cole and Taylor Jackson Cole of Elmore, Ala.; three step-grandchildren, Mary Frances Hendren and John Marshall Hendren of Mobile and Shane Hardman (Patti) of Southside, Ala.; three step-great-grandchildren, Shelby, Bree and Carley Hardman; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Springhill Baptist Foundation, One McGregor Ave., Mobile, AL 36608; or to UMS-Wright Preparatory School, 65 N. Mobile St., Mobile, AL 36607.
