John R. Fennell (Johnny), 79, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville.

The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. Interment followed in Sharon Memorial Park.
John was Born in Chester and grew up in Charlotte. He graduated from Tech High School in 1953. After graduation from high school, he went to work for the telephone company. Bell Telephone was his only employer for 38 years! Upon retirement, he continued to work part time with various phone companies to keep himself busy.
John married the love of his life, Betty, in 1954. They had an awesome 59 years together and now they are back together in Heaven.
He was a charter member and faithful volunteer of the South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church. John was also a charter member of the Idlewild Volunteer Fire Department in 1975/76.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his nephew, Lane Holcombe; and his brother, Alvin C. Fennell Jr.
John is survived by his sons, Eric Fennell of Charlotte and Barry Fennell of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Margaret Fennell of Hope Mills; and nieces, Patricia Fennell Carnes of Clarksville, Va. and Lynn Fennell of Chapel Hill, N.C. He also leaves behind neighbors who turned into family, Calvin, Josh, Diane and Steve Keller, Patricia Peroulas and the entire ShowMars Family.
