The Rev. John Daniel "J.D." McClurkin, 86, retired minister, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 102 Church St., Chester, with Pastor Donnie McClurkin delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Chester County on Aug. 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Rev. John A. McClurkin and Emma Crosby McClurkin. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Suenie and Eugenia; and one brother, Donald McClurkin.
He was a member of Lincolnville Baptist Church and pastored churches in Chester, Fairfield, Union and Kershaw counties. He was a member of Cephas Masonic Lodge #320 and A.P.&B. Lodge #13 and was a life member of NAACP. He was actively affiliated with the Chester Ministerial Alliance, National Baptist Convention USA Inc. and the Baptist E&M State Convention of S.C.
Survivors are three daughters and one son, Pianelius Howell-Foster (Keny), Reginald McClurkin (Denise), Brenda Martin-Massey and Collette Dixon-Calhoun; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willie McClurkin Sr. and Robert McClurkin; two sisters, Pansy Williams and Mary Emma Davis (Joe); sister-in-law, Melanie McClurkin; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, with Masonic rites performed at 7 p.m. at Lincolnville Missionary Baptist Church, Chester. Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery St., Chester.
