Donald F. O'Rourke(1926 - 2013)

Donald F. O'Rourke, 86, of Council Bluffs, died Friday Jan. 25, 2013. Scripture rosary and wake services are 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, followed by visitation until 8 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Glenwood. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday 10:30 a.m. also at Holy Rosary Church. Fathers Charles O'Rourke and Howard Fitzgerald are co-celebrants. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery with a luncheon to follow back at church. Memorials are suggested to Holy Rosary Church. Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring of Council Bluffs is in charge of arrangements.
Don was born, May 15, 1926, in Missouri Valley, to Charles and Mary (Walsh) O'Rourke. Don was engaged to marry Shirley Mae in December of 1949, when he was stricken with polio. They were married Aug. 30, 1950, and sons, John, Larry and Terry were born. Together Don and Shirley farmed in the Neola-Underwood area from 1950 – 1966, when they purchased a farm and moved to Silver City. They later moved to Council Bluffs in 2001, but Don continued to own the farm. He was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Parish in Glenwood, charter member of their Knights of Columbus, Mills County Pork Producers and was named the Mills County Master Pork Producer. Don loved his family, faith and farming. He never let his disability cloud his zest for life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Mae on Sept. 30, 2001, and sister Irene Green. Survivors include his sons and spouses, John and Lisa of Omaha; Larry and Nancy of Glenwood; and Terry and Jana of Council Bluffs; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; one step-great-grandson; brother Rev. Charles O'Rourke SSC, Bellevue, Neb.; sisters, Pat Shea and Rita Gubbels both of Council Bluffs; and Sister Jean O'Rourke RSM, Omaha; many nieces and nephews.
