Bradford Jay Merritt, 62, of Parker, Colo., passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018, at The Denver Hospice. Bradford was commonly known as "Jay" to all his friends outside of Iowa.
Jay was born in Council Bluffs, on Dec. 23, 1955. Jay was the son of Betty and Lynn Merritt. He attended Glenwood schools from K-12 and graduated in 1974. Upon graduation, Jay joined the United States Army where he served in the 8th Army band. While serving in the army, Jay received the Army Achievement Medal and Army Service Ribbon. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he attended Drexel University and received his Master's degree in Music. Jay not only had a love for music but thrived when caring for pets and planting flowers in the springtime. Jay will be remembered for his caring and compassionate spirit by all that knew him.
He is survived by his mother Betty June Merritt (Cashatt), his brother Anthony "Tony" Merritt, and many nieces and nephews. Jay is preceded in death by his grandparents Frank and Fanny Cashatt; Ralph and Trennie Merritt; his father Lynn Merritt and his nephew Toby Merritt.
Military interment service is at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colo., Wednesday, July 11 at 10:30 am.
Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Bradford Jay Merritt to the Glenwood Senior High School Band.
