Herman John Kiersch, 80, Clarinda, died Aug. 12, 2014, at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda. Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, with Beckie Linn Gregory officiating. Herman John Kiersch was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Mineola, to Harry Nicholas Kiersch and Anna Louise (Luers) Kiersch. He helped farm until he was 18 at which time he joined the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan and after he was discharged he returned to Mills County where he met Carol Crouch. They were married in 1957. Herman worked for the local CO-OP in Silver City and then with Pepsi Cola Company where he worked for 16 years. Pepsi transferred his family to Clarinda in 1969, where he finished raising his family of five girls. He was one of the first to begin working at the new Hoover-NSK plant in Clarinda.
Herman enjoyed gardening, antique tractors, building Adirondack chairs, outdoor activities and was an avid walker, outdoorsman and nature enthusiast.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Leonard Kiersch, Arnold Kiersch and Adeline Hemmelring. Herman is survived by his wife, Carol, Clarinda; children Kim Davis and husband Ken, Colorado; Kristi Brown and husband Ed, Clarinda; Joni Kiersch, Omaha, Neb.; Jeanne Goecker and husband Craig, Clarinda; and Holly Schmidt and husband Joel, Clarinda; grandchildren Mark (Alicia) Davis, San Diego; Sara Davis, New York City; Bryan (Danah) Brown, Des Moines; Lisa (Brannen) Beemer, Des Moines; Scott Brown, Baton Rouge, La.; Nicholas Speck, Omaha; Heather (Kate) Speck, Omaha; Daniel Goecker, Omaha; Megan Goecker, Clarinda; Lucas (Katelyn) Searl, Blanchard; and Lauren Schmidt, Clarinda; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
