Richard L. "Dick" Djureen, 79 of Glenwood, died Nov. 17, 2012, at the Hospice With Heart facility in Glenwood. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood. Rev. Dean McPherson will officiate. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Hospice With Heart or Glenwood Golf Course.
Dick was born March 2, 1933, in Council Bluffs, to Lester Richard Djureen, Sr. and Dorothy Marie (Brown) Djureen. He moved from Omaha, Neb., to Malvern while he was in junior high. Dick was married to Maxine Griffin on Dec. 16, 1951, in Malvern. To this union four daughters were born, Christie, Lisa, Gail and Jeanette.
Dick faithfully served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Navy from 1951-54. He was employed with Allied Chemical as a supervisor for fertilizer terminals nationwide. Dick was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and having fun with his family and friends. Maxine and Dick enjoyed spending many winters in Texas following retirement.
Preceding Dick in death were his parents and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Djureen of Glenwood: daughters, Christie and husband David Langenfeld of Fremont, Neb.; Lisa and husband Steven Rippke of Moville; Gail and husband Stephen Bowman of Omaha; Jeanette Beier of Council Bluffs: nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Lester and wife Betty Djureen of Council Bluffs; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.
