DORIS JEAN HEATHERLY-HOLLENBECK

Doris Jean Heatherly-Hollenbeck's Life & Legacy

Doris Jean Heatherly Hollenbeck entered into God's Kingdom early Sunday morning, December 9, 2012, at 91 years of age. A native of San Diego, Doris attended San Diego High School, San Diego State, University of Arizona, and Art Center of Los Angeles. Her talent, creativity, and exuberance led her to lead a fruitful and exciting life. In addition to raising 3 college-educated, productive children, she had an amazing career. Doris worked as a draftsman during WWII at Ryan Air; wrote copy and did layout and design in advertising for the Orange County Register, The Los Angeles Herald Examiner, the Los Angeles Times, and the Daily Pilot; and taught art to school children all over Orange County. She was truly multi-talented in all aspects of commercial art and design. In addition to being a talented and inspired pianist, she loved poetry and literature and had a marvelous command of the English language.

Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris is survived by her daughter, Ruth Elaine Sternlight; sons, M. Keith Hollenbeck Jr. and Mark A. Hollenbeck; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. "Grammie," as she was fondly known by her family, was an inspirational and loving matriarch who will be remembered as a fun-loving, brilliant, and elegant woman whose life was lived to the fullest. Thank you, Grammie, for giving us so much love and so much to live up to.
