Vernon, Robert William,
passed away on January 16, 2013. Born on May 25, 1931 in Youngstown, Ohio he attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated in 1954 with a BS in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. He was then drafted in the Army where he served for two years during the Korean War
, spending most of this time stationed in Germany. In 1956 he joined Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young) in Youngstown, Ohio. In 1957 he transferred to Los Angeles and subsequently served in the Orange County, California and Boise, Idaho offices. In Los Angeles and Orange County he served many clients including the Angels Major League Baseball team for about 15 years. He became a staunch Angel booster and he and his wife Chris continued to support them currently. He was partner in charge of auditing and accounting in Orange County and Boise where he was also in charge of overseeing a major client of the firm and the largest potato processor in the U.S., J.R. Simplot Co. He retired in the mid-1980s and moved back to Orange County. After retiring he was the CFO for several companies including a food brokerage company and Southland Brands where he also served on their Board of Directors.
In 1960 he found the love of his life, Edith Christine Fletcher (Chris) and they were married in Manhattan Beach. Subsequently they lived in various Orange County cities and Boise Idaho. In 1990 they moved to Mission Viejo to enjoy retirement. They traveled extensively throughout the world and agreed their best trip was to Africa on a "camera safari" where they observed the wildlife in its native state.
Bob was active in several professional organizations including CPA societies in Orange County and Idaho where he was Treasurer of the Boise chapter. He was also a Past President of the Orange County chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and served on the National Board of Directors for three years. He was also involved in various charitable organizations and became President of the Orange County chapter of Children's Home Society and served on its California State Board.
Bob enjoyed traveling, photography and was an avid golfer although he always said it was a very humbling game. He was a member of El Niguel Country Club where he served as President in 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Chris; two step children, Richard Fletcher of Huntington Beach and Nancy Warth of Temecula; also five step grandchildren, Michael and Steven Fletcher and Rick, Christopher and Michael Allen; four great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
Private services will be held and a "celebration of life" will be held on January 24, 2013 at 3pm at El Niguel Country Club, 23700 Clubhouse Drive, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677.
