Bye, Van Gerald,
63, a long time Orange County Resident, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 28, 2012. He was born March 4, 1949 to parents Gerald and Mildred Bye in Yankton, South Dakota. During his high school years he and his
parents moved to Anaheim, California where he graduated from
Savannah High School in 1967. He received an A.A. degree in Business from Fullerton College in 1969, a B.A. in Business from the University of Washington
in 1971, and a Master of Education from Azusa Pacific University in 1978. He was recently married to Carolyn Prough August 11, 2012.He played pro basketball during the early 1970's in the NBA as well as pro leagues in Europe and Mexico. He was head basketball coach at Borrego Springs High School and later at Esperanza High School in the late 1970's. Throughout the years he worked for Converse, LA Gear, Power Plus, and Apollo Insurance while also coaching and refereeing youth and high school basketball.
He was survived by his parents; wife; son, Brett Bye; daughter-in-law, Janelle Bye; and son Cory Bye. He was also proud grandpa of Brett and Janelle's three-month-old son Jet. The family is asking that donations be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Orange County or the
