JACK TOWNSEND Obituary

Townsend, Jack, 78, of Fullerton, CA, passed away on February 1, 2014. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 15, at 2:00 PM at First Christian Church, 109 E. Wilshire Ave, Fullerton, CA.

Jack was born in Hollywood, CA and moved to Calexico as a young child. He attended Mercersburg Academy in PA, and Fullerton High School, graduating from the latter. From Chapman University, he received his B.A. and M.A. in School Administration.

He began his teaching career in the Buena Park School District in 1960, later becoming a Principal, Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, and Superintendent of Schools. He received many honors and awards, including being named a Wall of Fame recipient at Fullerton Union High School.

Music was an integral part of his life, and he was an accomplished pianist and organist. He played in prominent dinner houses, taught organ for Adult Education classes, and served as organist for First Christian Church and the Plummer Auditorium. He was actively involved as a board member of the Orange County Theatre Organ Society.

Amateur radio was another avid interest, as was restoration of antique autos and educational radio (KBPK 90.1, Buena Park).

He was also an active member of Fullerton First Christian Church, serving on the board many years, and having a keen interest in audio-visual development.

Above all, he was a devoted family man and is survived by his loving family; wife, Connie; son, Steven (Glenn); daughter, Nancy (Joe); and grand-daughter Milana (Jacob).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Jack Townsend Memorial Fund at First Christian Church of Fullerton, 109 E. Wilshire, Fullerton, CA, 92832. McAulay & Wallace Mortury

Dearest Connie, I just looked up your names and found out that Jack has passed. I send prayers to you and your family. You and Jack and Stevie were a big part of my young childhood, you were always so kind to me as a young girl. I have such fond memories of you and Jack, you were like my second family.
My family lived across the street from you in Fullerton. Jack was such a wonderful man, I send my condolences.

Mr. Townsend was a great instructor, more than a teacher. While at mcComber in the 60's, he taught me what it took to write a book. He spent a lot of personal time hiding me through the process. I won't forget him for that.

Mr Townsend was my favorite teacher in elementary school. I remember how tall and intimidating he was the first day of 5th grade. He had such a gentle soul. He loved music and the World Series. He would roll the portable tv into our classroom and we would watch the game. Lol
I remember Mr Townsend as always being fair and very kind. Nancy and I became friends and did a few afternoon activities together. I've thought about Mr Townsend over the years and every time I pass the music store location on Harbor Blvd I think of the Townsend Family. I'm sending love and prayers to all. May you all find peace in your hearts with wonderful memories of your loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who has gone home to be with our Lord.
Fondly,
Michelle (Shelley) Andrews
