AMELIA EMILY (DUDEK) DOMEN Obituary

Domen, Amelia Emily (Dudek), age 89 of Yorba Linda, passed away on November 23 from complications arising from respiratory illness and heart disease. She died peacefully at home while on hospice care, surrounded by her family.

Amelia was born on February 26, 1923 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, the first daughter of Evelyn and Michael Dudek. She attended Holyoke High School and was a member of the A Cappella and Girls' Ensemble choirs before graduating in 1940. Amelia attended nursing school prior to joining the U.S. Army, where she served as a registered nurse (RN) during World War II and met the love of her life Bernard Domen. They married on March 2, 1946 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

After the war, Amelia and Bernard settled in Hibbing, Minnesota and had 10 children. In 1966, they moved their family to southern California, where Amelia spend the remainder of her life. Amelia worked as an RN until she retired at age 69, after 42 years of nursing.

After retirement, Amelia continued to stay busy. She was an active member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church and lent her beautiful voice to the choir. She loved to entertain and hosted weekly bridge games at her house. Traveling was another passion of Amelia's and she visited destinations across the United States and abroad. Most of all, family was her greatest love and she cherished every moment she spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Michael, John, Peter and Paul Domen; daughters, Mary Anne Fritzsche, Pat Garnes, Margie Anderson and Jeanne Reeve; 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard; sister, Helen Dudek; and children, Mark Domen and Kathy Smith.

A viewing will be held at Pierce Brothers Anaheim Mortuary from 4 to 8 pm on November 27, with rosary at 7pm. Funeral mass will be held at 10 am on November 28 at Pope John Paul II Polish Church in Yorba Linda, reception to follow. Graveside service will be held at 1pm at Cemetery of the Good Shepherd in Huntington Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Companion Hospice, 2041 W. Orangewood Ave, Orange, CA 92868.
