CARL H. MARCOUX Obituary
Marcoux, Carl H., aged 86, passed peacefully from this life on November 20, 2013. A native of San Francisco, resident of Newport Beach since 1974. Carl retired from the insurance industry in 1985 after attaining the Executive vice presidency of Transamerica Insurance Company.

A lifelong student and traveler, Carl graduated from Stanford University in 1950. He earned an MBA from Golden Gate University in 1958. After retiring from Transamerica Insurance Company Carl attended the University of California were he obtained a Master Degree in History in 1988, being the oldest graduate that year at the University of California Irvine, at the age of 61. He continued his education earning a doctorate in Latin American History from the University of California, Riverside in 1994 at the age of 67.

A WWII veteran of the US Merchant Marine, Carl sailed in the South Pacific and ultimately made a world cruise. He also served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Carl later published two novels based on his years with the Merchant Marine during WWII. He also wrote historical articles for World War II Magazine and other publications.

A great believer in education, Carl established the Henry R. Marcoux Award for Dissertation Research at the University of California, Riverside, to honor his father. The name has now been changed to the Henry R. and Carl H. Marcoux Award for Dissertation Research.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Ana Virginia; sons, Eric and Grant of San Francisco, CA; his brother, Roderick of Point Reyes Station, CA; and sister, Patricia Thomas of Moraga, CA.
