Gary Quiggle Obituary

Quiggle, Gary L., passed away surrounded by family on Sept. 16, 2010. Born in 1940 in Pasadena to Arthur and Doris Quiggle, Gary was raised in Monrovia, graduated from Webb School in Claremont and University of Redlands in 1962. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bonnie Lindsey Quiggle. Gary's personal and professional life revolved around improving conditions for others, and volunteering in numerous professional and service groups. He worked for California Employment Development Department (EDD) for 36 years, retiring as manager of the Long Beach Department. In that capacity he was influential in formulating legislation and establishing training programs for Veterans, and was an organizer of the annual Long Beach Stand Down events. He was honored by U.S. Small Business as Veterans' Advocate of the Year in 1999. He also served on the Board of Conservation Corps of Long Beach, and was active in raising funds for families of National Guard and Reserves who are deployed. Dozens of other organizations benefited from his active leadership and participation. In addition to his wife, he is survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Keith and Lela Lindsey, and by his niece, nephew and their spouses, Colleen and Kevin Cope, and Jordan and Misha Lindsey, many more relatives, and numerous close friends and colleagues. Donations in Gary's name may be made to National Guard and Reserves Family and Youth Foundation in California (N.G.R.F.Y.F.) addressed to Karen McGraw, 2460 Balfour Ave., Fullerton, CA 92831.
