Hal and leadership went hand in hand. Just a rock solid guy with a great smile. Great memories of Hal and our classmates of '67. God Bless y'all.

On his first day as our teacher at Mater Dei, Mr. Mack told us that the most important thing he wished for us to learn was Christianity. Our Social Studies class was an eclectic mix of lighthearted troublemakers and serious students. Mr. Mack was a wonderful teacher and turned the other cheek to endure occasional hijinx in his class but always brought things back to order. I will always remember a day when he called on us one at a time to go around the room and name the 35 or so other students in the class. The wallflower studious types did much better than the more social but cliquier types. Harold Mack was unique in many ways, but I always had the feeling that he liked me. More than the books, the job, the tests, or his teacherly duties.
To me he modeled Christ, an authority but a servant.
Mater Dei had many fine teachers and people as I remember it -- but when I heard his passing mentioned at the recent Mater Dei - Servite game I found myself turning
to the person next to me and saying " ... he was my favorite teacher." Thank you Jesus for your brief loan to us, and Mr. Mack, if "love is patient" you certainly earned your wings with our class. Murray Quirk

Richard and I share a sudden profound sadness hearing that Hal is gone. We shared many happy carefree days as students at SCU in the 60's. We pray that memories for all the family will soften the pain.

I remember Mr. Mack from Civics class in 1968 or 1969. He jumped up on his desk, stood and lectured us from there...making sure we would not forget what he was saying! In my box of memories I have a button several of us girls wore that said "Harold Cares". We all appreciated his teaching skills. He's in God's hands now. Deirdre McGurrell "69"

Mr. Mack was my civics teacher at MDHS in 1968. The lessons he taught me then, have carried with me through out the years. Thanks Mr. Mack.

I most recently saw "HalMack" in 2008 at a school reunion. He was the same kind and gentle man that I had known from school. His charm was always couched in a grace and poise that was so rare to find in a person. If I feel this sad over the loss of an old school friend, I can't imagine how much his family and close friends will miss him.

To Hal's family:
I was a classmate of Hal's at SCU. He was a leader then and a leader his entire life. He is now at rest with the Lord. I remember Hal very well and very fondly. God bless him and you. Gary Shara "67

I knew Hal well during our years together at Santa Clara; I hadn't had any contact with him since we graduated in '67. But reading his obituary, you have a sense that he maintained the same strong and caring character throughout the rest of his life. We can all be proud to have known Hal.

A few years ago I reconnected briefly with Harold at gathering in honor of our grade school mentors. I was immediately struck by his quality of presence, which had not changed since childhood- he was just as peaceful, bright and fearless as I remembered. This news of his passing makes me very sad. Our world needs Harold's particular essence so badly. My sincerest condolences to his family, and my heartfelt thanks to Harold for sharing his a bright, solid, great spirit, which affected so many of us, in such a rare, strong, beautiful and positive way.

As an attorney representing my opponent Hal was such a gentleman that I chose him to represent me and others after my dispute was settled. Professionally it doesn't get much better then that! He will be missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of intellectual honesty will always be remembered.

When I look back on my years involvement with Christians In Commerce with Hal, it makes me sad to hear that such a gentle, contemplative, Christian servant has left us. Hal was always the one to ask "How are you doing". He left an enduring legacy of what it looks like to be fully present, and available to accept God's abundant Grace.
