Hazel Courreges Obituary

Courreges, Hazel Lee October 16, 1925 - April 03, 2011 Hazel Lee Courreges, 85, passed away on April 3, 2011, surrounded by her family. Hazel was born on October 16, 1925 in Talbert (Fountain Valley), Ca. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Joseph John Courreges. Hazel was the mother that gave us what we needed even if she had to do without herself. She was a farmer's wife and worked hard in the field and fruit orchards to make sure the family farm would survive but still had time to give us the love and support we needed. Being only familiar with hard work, our first memories of "mom" were working in the field, either picking boysenberries or irrigating cabbage. Days at the "top of the hill" were long and were made up of endless duties. If you had the privileged of knowing our mom, you would never forget her. She was a woman of her word, fulfilling any promise she ever made and completing any task she signed on for. Mom enjoyed entering her canning at the Orange County Fair and usually won about all the ribbons in the categories she entered. You could say she kept the competitive spirit alive. Mom also enjoyed watching the Angel baseball games every spring season. We can say now that we have our own Angel. Our mom was an incredible woman and was a positive role model. She was a giver, not a taker. A doer, not a complainer. She was a caring and loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. That was our mom (Hazel). Her passing will leave a break in our hearts that only time can heal. Hazel is survived by her sister, Bea Stuard (Dale) and four children. son, Ron Courreges and his wife, Donna; grandchildren, Roch Courreges and Deana Courreges (Mike Craft) and great grandchildren Kyle Courreges-Craft, Jack Courreges-Craft, and Owen Courreges Craft; daughter, Janice Courreges White, Grandchildren Marie Bancroft and her husband Steve, Theresa White and Matthew White; great- grandchildren, Kaleigh and Brittany Bancroft; daughter Linda C. Callens and belated husband Rene N. Callens; grandchildren, Rene Courreges Callens and his wife Aimee, and Sean Joseph Callens his wife, Emillee and great-grandchild, Audree Hazel Callens; daughter, Irene Courreges Lindsey and her husband Edward; grandchildren, Jay Lindsey and his wife Melody and Tabitha Lindsey; great- grandchild, Jaden Lindsey. A viewing will be held at Dildays Mortuary on Thursday, April 7 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. There will be a Rosary at 6:00 pm. There will be mass at Holy Spirit Church on Ward St. Fountain Valley, Ca. on Friday, April 8 at 11:00 am. The graveside service will be held at the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach, Ca. following the mass. A reception will be held at Huntington Beach Elks Lodge following the cemetery services. The family would like to thank you for your prayers and kind words.

Hazel was the best Mother in Law anyone could have asked for, when I first met hazel after coming back from the Gulf, Hazel treated me like a member of the family, I felt our relationship was like a son and mother not a son in law or mother in law, it's been 8 years now I pray that someday we all meet up in that beautiful place called Heaven.

Dear Ron, Janice, Linda, and Irene,
Words cannot express the deep feelings of sorrow that we have for your mom's passing. She was one of a kind--warm hearted, generous, caring, and always family oriented. She was a loyal and longtime friend of the Kato family. We truly regret that we were unable to attend her service. May your memories of her help you all through this difficult time.
With Love and Aloha,
Roy, Lillian and Lianne

Hazel was an absolutely awesome lady she took me in and treated myself as oneof the family from day one. Being an Ordained Minister Hazel and I would sit at Janice's table and discuss scripture sometimes for hours she definetly had her Faith and she truly loved her family alllllll of them

My name is Janet Tindell (maiden name) and I remember Hazel when I a little girl and can remember her sweet and cheerful melodic voice and lovely smile. I remember she had a pretty face with rosy cheeks, she was strong, but seemed small to me. My mother Justine Lacabanne (maiden name) whose mother was Elizabeth Courreges want to wish our condolences and love for the family. Also, it is quite odd as I was searching for the family 2 days ago and saw her name and I was going to try to reach her. I did send an email to one of the family members. Hazel is free in a beautiful place and we will all meet again. God bless all of you. Janet and Justine I remember Janice, especially because she had the most beautiful long hair!!! Please call us sometime at 530-605-3353.

Irene and family:
So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was truly a very special lady.

AS a long time HB/FV Resident, I will always remember how wonderful the Courreges' were to my many Girl Scouts with te tours of the "ranch." I also think of all the ribbons she won at the OC fair. An outstanding, wonderful human being. I'm sure she is missed by her family very deeply.
