Since we were very close friends, often spoke only in Russian, I knew Henry after his parents and he, fled from Rostov-on-the-Don, Soviet Union, in the late morning hours with a few people, including a locomotive engineer and a fireman, because the engineer commandeered a locomotive, tender with sufficient coal and water, and one passenger car.
Adjunctly, they hid several weapons and ammunition onboard as well as a timetable.
The engineer hid the train on a spur in a wooded area, and successfully reached the Soviet Sector of East Berlin, and when it was noticed that the Soviet guards weren't certain about their falsified papers, the engineer gave full throttle, crashing through the sector blockade, into freedom of West-Berlin.
It was shortly thereafter that we met me, a German boy, in a tri-city boy scout camporee in the mountains.

We remember Henry often. He was a very cheerful and friendly person. Thanks to him we saw a lot of new places in the US. It feels like we've known him for many many years, though we've met for only a short period of time. We will always remember Henry.

When we got a message that Henry had passed away, it was a very big shock for all of us. We could think about nothing besides Henry. I remember when he asked me about the death of my husband. I replied him that my husband passed away at the morning going for fishing. Henry replied to me that he wishes to have a similar death. He told me that he wanted to be in ocean, to catch fish and to die after it. Lord heard his words and made the Henry's wish. I remember all our meetings. He was alway merry and full of life and plans for the future. He was an American with the Russian soul and remembered about his Russian roots always. Only three Lomakins entered to the U.S. land, now there are many Lomakins there. Henry will be with us due to his children, grandchildren and future great-grand children.
At the first our meeting in 2002 Henry presented for my daughter Katya $2 bill as a symbol of happiness or lucky bill. She still keeps it and says that she never spends it, because it is a memory about Henry. We have a lot of memories about Henry. He will be always with us. It is not just words. I am very upset sincerely that he left us so early. By the Russian tradition I wish:" Kingdom of Heaven for him".
I understand Roxanne very well how it is difficult to miss the beloved person. Years later after the death of my husband I understand that the time is Doctor. Roxanne, you are not alone and you are surrounded by your children and grandchildren and it will help you these days. Kingdom of Heaven for Henry and God bless all Lomakin's family.

I met Henry in June 2010. I liked him very much, because he was very kind person and spoke Russian with me and we played music together. I was delighted to learn how to swim due to Henry. I will try to do my best and will always remember that he was my first swimming teacher. I will keep his gifts as a memory about him. I miss you, Henry.

My son will always remember his first swimming lessons, which Henry gave him in June'10. Thank you Henry for everything and as we say in Russia "pust zemlya budet tebe pukhom".

To the Lomakin Family.

It has saddened us to know of Henry's passing. He was such a genuine caring man who over the years touched so many of us. He certainly loved life and fully enjoyed it. He adored his beautiful family and we know that one day we will all embace him again.
He enriches our lives even now with his examples and fond memories.

He will always live in the hearts and minds of all who love him still. Look for the sparkle in his granchildren's eyes - that is Henry smiling back and reminding us he is still here.

God Bless you all.

An Old Friend.
