Dad, you are and always will be, my "favorite person in the world." I hope you never got tired of hearing me say that to you. I have never known someone more thoughtful, selfless, caring and loving than you. Your goodness always amazed me and still does. And how much fun you are to be around; I miss that. Papa, I think about you, love you and miss you each and every day. How blessed I am to be your daughter. I will rejoice when we are together again. Love Mary

Pastor's Pen
GOD'S ENDLESS ADVENTURE
We received news this week that Pastor Jay Campbell, the man God used to build this church in 1947, went home to be with the Lord at age 94. I had two remarkable days with Pastor Jay (both videos are on our website).
I met with him the first time during a couple hour interview we had arranged with him and his wife Alta. We traveled down to Huntington Beach and he answered the door one Wednesday morning dressed in his finest. It was the same week that Ken Burns' "The War" first aired on PBS. I learned right away that Pastor Jay had served as a Naval Chaplain on Guadalcanal. This man is a hero!
The second time he came up to Burbank for our "Rededication." At that time it was already clear to me that God had done a great work through him here between 1947-1963. We had been collecting stories from people who dropped by during our clean-up of the building. I learned the truth of John 4:38. We were just restoring the work of God here. As Jay said, "If you plant seed, you get fruit!" Jay was not only a war hero, he is a pastor hero to me.

Dear Alta, I have enclosed a brief tribute I wrote regarding Jay. We showed video of Jay during all of our services and many were moved to tears. I must confess I could not talk about Jay without tears either.
I desperately wanted to attend Jay's service on Saturday but could not because of prior commitments. Is there any way I could receive a copy of that service in any form?
Our prayers are with you Alta.
Your brother, Pastor Tim Anderson, Calvary Chapel Burbank

Dear Beloved Alta and Campbell Family,
I spoke with my mom last night and she informed me about Pastor C's passing. I'm so sorry to hear this about Pastor Campbell, but I know he was ready to go to the Lord. He served the Lord so well for many years and I know he is free from pain and suffering and will await his beloved Alta.
I have many fond memories of Pastor C going back to my days as a small child at the First Presbyterian Church. I remember how exciting it was when my Sunday School Class got selected to attend church with the grownups, and how Pastor C always prepared a special lesson that the kids could understand and relate to. I remember how much mom loved working as Pastor C's secretary at the church for many years. I remember those special midnight candlelight Christmas Eve services. I remember when my sister and I both accepted Christ as our personal Lord and Savior during Dr. Walter Martin's visit to our church and how Pastor C spoke with us afterwards. I remember how Pastor C always concluded each church service with a call to worship for anyone who wanted to accept, and make a commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ.
I remember how I admired his athletic abilities at his age (he was pitching for us when he was in his 60s) and what a great pitcher he was for our church softball team and an inspiration to me and the other players on our team. I remember how he lead us in prayer before every game and how he never asked God for a victory, but rather asked God to let us perform to the best of our abilities and to keep both teams free from injury. But most of all, I remember how he was always there for our family as well as other families when we needed him the most. He was always at the hospital before and after my mom's cancer surgeries to comfort us and to lead us in prayer.
I have nothing but fond memories, admiration and love for this man and it breaks my heart that I live so far away now and that I won't be able to show my respects and attend his funeral. I take comfort in knowing that Pastor C, as well as the rest of you; know how much he meant to me and how much I love him. I remember hearing mom tell me how a few years back when Pastor C was in the hospital and near death, how mom, dad, and your family all joined hands around him and dad asked the Lord to please give us a little more time with him, and although it might seem selfish, that we just weren't ready to let him go yet. God certainly answered that prayer, and I'm thankful to God that he let us have Pastor C as long as he did. His commitment to God and his compassion for others set the bar high for how a man should live his life for God. As the tears stream down my face I hate to let him go, but I know he has a higher calling now, and a wonderful reunion in heaven awaits him, and a well deserved eternal peace.
Love in Christ,
Scott Robertson

Dear Aunt Alta and families, We in Ohio were truely shocked that Uncle Jay had passed. He was so kind, soft spoken and gentle! We loved the two of you visiting us and I will never forget when Uncle Jay baptized Marissa & MacKenzie in our home. I believe it was mom and dad's 50th. Even tho we knew it was a special baptisim, we were honored he took the time to do so. We love all of you so much and even tho the miles between us are great, you are always in our prayers and hearts. Ron just reminded me the time we came out to visit you all, oh my gosh, what a good time we had. I do know we hold alot of good memories and that is something that will always be with us. Love you all, Marlene, Ron, Marissa, MacKenzie, Rochelle, Randy, Jennifer, Olivia & Griffin.

My life was forever influenced by Pastor Campbell. My decision for Christ and commitment of my life to serve Him came as a direct result of Pastor Campbell and other beloved souls love and solid teaching at First Pres.
May all in the family be comforted in the knowledge he finished the work the Lord sent him to do. May His peace be with you all.

Thursday night was glorious over Tomales Bay up here in Northern Calif. As the sun set the clouds hearlded the days end with a explosion of color. In Jays memory I gathered a bunch of wild yellow flowers and saying a silent prayer of farwell, I sent them afloat upon the golden waters.

Jay was our pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Westminster as we launched our family as young marrieds. He faithfully preached Biblical truth, and he encouraged our young couple's fellowship. He baptized our children. How wonderful that God blessed this mild-mannered saint with long life before taking him home.
We pray for the comfort of the family as you grieve, not as the world grieves, but with the hope of fellowship with Jay again when God resurrects the saints and Jesus rules over the new heaven and new earth.
