John Saint Obituary

Saint, John, was born on March 28, 1914, in Solomonville, Arizona. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving wife and eldest daughter at his home in Costa Mesa on October 7, 2010. John was 96 years old. A resident of Costa Mesa since 1954, John was a business owner, musician, teacher, published writer, and pilot. He owned City Sign Co. from 1954 to 1981, where he hand-lettered signs and vehicles, gold leafed and silk screened. He was also the founder and owner of the Costa Mesa Comets, a semi-pro baseball team, which he managed and occasionally played catcher. For his service to the community, the Costa Mesa City Council adopted a Resolution in his honor on June 16, 1969. Additionally, he received recognition for outstanding community service from the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce in May 1969 and October 1975. As a professional musician, John played guitar at various local venues including The Blue Room in Balboa. He also taught show card lettering at Orange Coast College and Golden West College. Retiring at age 67, he enjoyed writing and arranging jazz music, giving guitar lessons, playing senior league softball, flying his private Aeronca Super 90 airplane and eating his favorite dessert ice cream. John is survived by his wife Zody, to whom he had been married for 60 years; he will be forever remembered by his loving children, Adrian Saint, Andrea Lennon and Jana Seckler; treasured grandsons, Joshua and Jordan Borad; beloved great- grandchild expected in March 2011; caring daughter-in-law, Lorraine Saint; his cat and best buddy, "Fuzzy," along with other friends whom were blessed to know him. A private memorial service will be held at a later time.

I pretty much grew up with the Saint family. Adrian, along with John Labak were my best friends since 3rd Grade.
Spent a lot of time over the years at their house.
John tried to get me interested in playing the piano, but I just didn´t have the motivation.
In their backyard, John, Adrian and I used to play this makeshift baseball game that John had devised. It was a lot of fun.
I also played for the Comets in `76. I had been in the Minor Leagues and had hurt my arm. John invited me to play on his team. The best of times!
I realize it is late, but my condolences to the entire family. John was a good man.
God Bless,
Chuck Loseth

I played for Coach Saint in 1970-1972. I also enjoyed visiting John at City Sign Co. and just talking with him. Coach Saint even gave me a ride in a rental airplane one afternoon at O.C. Airport. Playing for Coach Saint gave me the opportunity to continue my baseball career as a Pitcher for San Jose State. We had some very good teams during my time with the Comets. When I came home in the summer from SJSU , I would d always look forward to playing for John at Teawinkle Park on Sundays and visiting with him. John Saint was an outstanding person and mentor and someone I will always remember.

I played 2nd base for coach Saint 75, 76 and 77...some of my best memories from the game came from those years. Always thought the 75 team could beat anybody. Was thinking about you today coach when I decided to google your name. (No such word back when I was playing for you :). My condolenses to the whole Saint family. Coach Saint gave so much of himself for others, he will always be remembered.

Played for John when he owned the Costa Mesa Comets. My memory is a little rusty, but I think it was in '77. I made the team, but blew out my arm by the end of the season. That was the end of my baseball career. I'll always remember John as a caring coach and friend.

May your family find peace in the Lord and Joy knowing that the love shared by his memories is just a glimps of what he is experiencing now and that that same joy will be experienced by us as we grow closer to him in the knowledge of Christ our Lord! God Bless all the Saint family.

As a young boy and teenager, I have nothing but wonderful memories of the Saint home. John always offered a kind, loving and fun environment. The countless hours spent there with my childhood and still best friend Adrian are the things that make life grand. John was an inspiration to me. His gifted talent as a sign maker sparked the trade I have worked in over 34 years. God bless him and all of the Saint family.

Our heartfelt condolences to the Saint Family. It has been said that we never truly lose those we hold dear - they live on in our hearts forever, leaving behind a legacy of love through warm and wonderful memories. May those dear memories bring comfort to you all and someday take the place of the sadness you feel now. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
