LUCILE H. RASMUSSEN Obituary
Rasmussen, Lucile H.

1912 - 2014

Born on June 18, 1912 in Hebron, Nebraska; passed away May 13, 2014 of end stage Alzheimer's in Orange, California at nearly 102 years of age. Daughter of J.A. 'Lon' and Lucy 'Lula' Crawford (nee. Prentice) and sister of Donna, Jac and Joseph Crawford.

Lucile was raised in Kansas on a large farm, and in 1929 the entire family relocated to Santa Ana, California. It was her Mother's brother, J.E. 'Ed' Prentice, who encouraged all of his siblings and their families to move West to California. Uncle Ed Prentice, a legendary Santa Ana businessman later donated the property now known as The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park. Lucile attended Santa Ana College and graduated with honors in 1932. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper and assistant to her Uncle 'Ed' Prentice.

While at Santa Ana College, during the great depression, Lucile met William 'Bill' Rasmussen, the love of her life, and 4 long years later they were married on Thanksgiving Day, 1936. Bill and Lucile went on to share a loving marriage of nearly 60 years before Bill passed away at age 84, in 1996.

Lucile resided near Old Town Orange for over 58 years. She was an excellent baker, cook and she canned fruit that she grew on her own property. In addition to her domestic talents, Lucile was a savvy and astute businesswoman, investor, and avid book collector, with a particular love of miniature books, and a talented bookbinder. She perfected her skill in the craft of bookbinding alongside her son Eric and husband Bill in their home-based business in the 60's and 70's known as The Dragon Bindery.

Lucile is survived by her son Eric B. Rasmussen and his wife of 28 years, Yvonne; her nephew, Jac A. Crawford, and his wife Wendy; her nieces Roseanne La Brie; Mary Langston, and her husband Gordon; Lani Fremaux, and her husband Emmett; Cindy Cornish; and Leslie Henehan, and her husband John.

She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Edward H. Rasmussen, at age 13, in 1954; her sister and two brothers; her nephew, Julian Lecrivain; and her niece, Donna Marie Brock.
