some years after we moved to our last house on the south side of chicago on wallace st. one one the boys from the family that lived acoss the alley from us on parnell was arrested for driving with a group of young men who were charged for a drive by shooting of a black kid. my family never talked about this, but i remember mom immediately baked a pie and took it over to their house. (today is national pie day.) often mother wasn't one for words. she mainly rolled up her sleeves and did whatever had to be done.

It is truly warming to read all of the loving words from all of Grammy's friends and family. I am blessed to remember my last visit with Grammy was at my twin's baptism here in California. It was beyond special to have her here and to know that all three of my children got to met their great-grandmother. With love~

What a beautiful soul - one who dedicated her life to helping others while always maintaining such a fierce, independent spirit! It is comforting to know she will forever live on in love within those for whom she provided such a wonderful role model.

“When you lose someone you love, it seems as though your sadness will never go away…
but, eventually it will ease. You’ll remember how wonderful your times together were, and then you’ll find the love you felt, lives on unchanged by time.”

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of my beloved aunt. Aunt Marie was indeed a kind and special person. She always made me feel that I too was also special in her own personal way of listening ever so attentively to what I had to say. I will never forget the time she and Uncle Charlie and Aunt Lee came to visit me in Chicago and the wonderful time we all had together at brunch.
The world has lost a very special human being who touched many lives in a very special way. I am ever so grateful and fortunate to be among them.
My prayers for all my cousins and their families during this time of loss, but please rest assured that she is at home now with Uncle Charlie and my father who predeceased her by just 1 month and whom I am sure made room for her like he always did since they were children growing up together.

Again, my condolences to my cousins and to all her friends on this great loss.

Affectionately,
Mark Scheuerell

I have known Marie since 1932 when we were classmates at Saint Mary's Academy. However, at that point in time I never dreamed that she would end up being my sister-in-law! Johnny and I had many good times together with her, Charlie and their family. I miss each one and I am remembering them in my daily prayers. My heartfelt sympathy to the entire family.

Love,
Aunt Mickey

Marie was my second mother when I was growing up. Being 11 years younger, I always looked ahead at what she was doing and thought "thats what I'll do". We both got our BS degrees from Marquette and loved the nursing profession. She was indeed my role model. Her "baby" sister

Dear Oma-

I love you so much and already miss you so much! You have always been my hero, and I have always admired you and looked up to you in so many ways. I will continue to live my life and raise my family in a way that you would be proud. Every time I have a rough moment that I am dealing with, I will think of you and how you would handle it. I will always admire your strength, determination, and devotion to religion and your family. I know you are looking down on us and watching over us now- you will always be my "guardian angel". We love you so much and you will always be in our thoughts on a daily basis,

Love,

I have known Marie for several years. We met at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. I had been visiting her at the nursing home for several years and we had become good friends. Tonight, I went to visit Marie and to tell her I had sent the Christmas cards, that she and I had worked on. I had picked her up some hot donuts which she enjoyed immensely. I found Marie's room empty and later learned of her passing. Marie was a very proud lady and talked constantly of her husband, children and grand-children. She told me the story about when she had first met her husband, and how he told her he was going to marry her, at their first meeting. The Navy discharged her immediately when they found out she had gotten married. Marie always enjoyed the Rosary Beads and Holy Water that I brought her from my visits to Lourdes, France.

To all of Marie's family please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Marie,
Rest In Peace, I will miss you!
