I am sorry to hear that Marie Pooler has passed. She touched my life in so many ways during my years at Rancho Santiago. She was an exceptional teacher with insight and for her I wrote my only piano compositions. Even today thirty years later I enjoy hearing them played. I thank her for the effort she put into me during a very turbulent and uncertain time. She remains in my heart as one of my most outstanding teachers.

When I was a student at Cal State Long Beach in the 60's, I accepted my first job as a choir director, at Bethlehem Lutheran church in Los Alamitos. Being a first time choir director was scary enough but finding out that the talented Marie Pooler was filling in as temporary organist was totally intimidating. However, as things turned out, it was truly my good fortune that Marie was the organist, as no one could have been more gracious, more patient or more helpful to me as a beginning choir director than Marie Pooler. She was a kind and a classy lady, and I admired her for her not only for her amazing talent as a musician but for her outstanding character and her goodness. It was a privilege to know Marie Pooler and to have had the joy of working with her for a brief time. My two all time favorite anthems, which Marie arranged were, "Jesus, Jesus Rest Your Head" and "Children of the Heavenly Father." May Marie's spirit continue to soar on its never ending journey. Thank you, Marie! Vicki Cyr, Arroyo Grande, CA

So sorry to hear of Marie's passing. I had the good fortune to know her for about a year or so, and thoroughly enjoyed our conversations about her travel and music experiences.
RIP Marie - and enjoy the best music ever!

I am sad to hear of her passing. She was always a delightful person to work with when she was Dean Pooler in charge of the Art Department at SAC. I always enjoyed talking to her before teaching a class.
