Sinclair, Dr. Robert Bruce

On February 14, 2013, Bruce closed his weary eyes and was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, at the age of 85. Born on July 26, 1927 in Alhambra, CA, he was the second son of William and Grace (Van Alstine) Sinclair.

Following his service in the Merchant Marines, California National Guard and U.S. Army, Bruce earned his B.A. in Education from Occidental College and his M.A. in Educational Administration from Los Angeles State College. In 1968 he earned his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Southern California.

Bruce started his 35 years in Education as an Elementary school teacher in Arcadia. He then taught in the Overseas Dependent Schools in Metz, France for two years serving as teacher-Principal. Upon his return, he worked for the School Districts of Pasadena and San Marino prior to becoming an Elementary Principal for Fountain Valley Schools. In 1966, he became a Director and later Assistant Superintendent for the Orange County Department of Education. In 1973, Bruce began working for Covina-Valley Unified School District as an Administrative Assistant for Instruction and then Director of Special Projects until his retirement in 1988.

Bruce was a 43-year resident of Santa Ana's Floral Park Neighborhood. He served on the boards of the Orange County Historical Society and the Old Courthouse Museum Society in Santa Ana where he was President for seven years. In addition, he was a member of the Santa Ana, Tustin and Costa Mesa Historical Societies. In 2004, he became a board member of the Orange Community Historic Society during which time he created their oral history program. He was the recipient of the society's William T. Glassell Award for his contributions to the preservation of local history. Bruce was also recognized for outstanding service to the community by the Mayor of Santa Ana and the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

Bruce was preceded in death by Alice his beloved wife of 48 years. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly and her husband Oscar; his son, Douglas and his wife Isela; and one grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Santa Ana on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at noon.
