Virginia Heilig Obituary

Heilig, Virginia LuVerne Falk, Virginia "Ginny" Heilig, born October 15, 1925, passed peacefully September 4, 2010 at her home in Irvine, CA. Born, raised and educated in Minneapolis, MN where she earned her RN degree, she and her new husband, Bud, then moved to Southern Cal. After falling in love with the Pacific Ocean, Ginny quickly found a beachfront apt. She worked as a psychiatric nurse when their first daughter, Karen Jeannette was born and soon after their son, Steven Louis followed. Their third and last child, Randi Marie was born before they moved to the new family home in Corona del Mar where the kids grew up through high school. Ginny was both a devoted mom and an elegant hostess for social gatherings and celebrations over the years. Everyone always appreciated her social graces and humorous wit. Her passions for her Persian cats and swimming beyond the surf were unending. She was always available to patch up errant surfers injured on the beach, using her nursing skills. In the early 1970s, Bud and Ginny's pathway divided. With her children grown, Ginny returned to her career as an RN, working in alcohol recovery and dermatology programs. She declined numerous offers of marriage and spent her remaining years in Laguna Beach and Irvine, CA. Ginny is survived by her eldest daughter, Karen, who was her longtime 24/7 caregiver; her son, Steve of San Francisco, CA; her younger daughter, Randi Danson of Santa Barbara, CA. who gave her two grandchildren, Lauren and Austin. Also two sisters, Dusti (Nancy) Fenno of Huntsville, AL and Linda Mathis of central France; two brothers, Roger Falk of Richfield, MN and Jim Beattie of Hesperia, CA. There are numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. No formal services are planned. Ginny requested that her cremains be scattered in the ocean she so cherished. Her loving smile and gentle spirit will be remembered by all, as she was an angel on Earth and now an angel in Heaven. Special thanks are extended to St. Joseph Hospice and The Neptune Society.

To Steve and Randi, whom I have known, and their family, I send my heartfelt love and sympathies for your loss of a lovely Lady and Mother. I never had the pleasure, beyond her obituary, of meeting your mother, but I know she was a fine and wise woman as her bright and joyful spirit is reflected in you two. I feel she has brought a lot of goodness and inspiration into the world and am thankful for her well lived life.

Though I didn't make it to Irvine, I had always wanted to see my Aunt Virginia and my West Coast cousins. Especially after I spent a few days in San Francisco with my son and met cousin Steve. Sadly I could not afford another trip out west, and I feel shortchanged in not meeting my dear Aunt Ginny, as we called her. She is with the Lord and looking down on us all, and I shall pray for her children and grandchildren of whom I know she was very proud. And I hope to see my cousins before another year goes by. I'm older, so it had better be soon! God bless and keep you all!

My sister by birth, my mentor and friend by choice. My love for you will never die. Years ago you chose to deliver your daughter Randi on my birthday, September 4th. Now heaven opened it's gates for you to enter on the same day! Because of that Randi and I will celebrate our birthday by remembering your graduation from this struggling earth to an eternal life with Jesus Christ, and one day we hope to join you once again. You've always been my angel in this world, I pray the Lord will allow you to continue watching over me, until we meet again. Your loving sister Dusti (Nancy).
