JOSEFINA TANCO LUMARDA Obituary
Lumarda, Josefina Tanco

April 23, 1922 - January 26, 2014

Josefina Tanco Lumarda was born in the town of Dumarao in the province of Capiz in the Philippine Islands. She was the oldest of eight children. Her most vivid memories were of life during the Japanese occupation of World War II.

In the early 1950s Josefina worked as a nanny and housekeeper for an American businessman and his family in Manila. In 1955 she traveled with them across the Pacific to Newport Beach, California. There she met Teodulo Lumarda, a gardener and driver for the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Orange. Within a month of their meeting, and with the approval of the Sisters, they were married on September 26, 1955.

Josie, as she was lovingly called, worked for the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Orange for almost 30 years. The Lumardas were parishioners of Holy Family Parish in Orange. Josie was a proud supporter of her hometown association Dumaraonon USA as well as various Catholic churches and nonprofit organizations. She became a proud citizen of the United States in 1985.

Josie died peacefully at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday January 26th at the Regina residence of the Sisters of Saint Joseph motherhouse in Orange. She is survived by her only son, Joseph; daughter-in-law, Denise; and two grandsons, Malone and Elias. Brown Colonial Mortuary, Assisting the family
