George A. Matas Obituary
Matas, George A., 90, passed away on January 25, 2014. He was born on August 23, 1923, was raised on a farm in Granton, Wisconsin and attended Kansas State University for a short time. He served his country in WWII in the Signal Corps and was stationed in England and France. After the war, he finished his business degree at DePaul University, Chicago IL. George married Geraldine "Pat" Zettek in 1948. In addition to proudly serving his country, he served the Lord throughout his life. He moved the family to Fullerton in 1961 in order to become the Executive Administrator for the American Baptist Churches in southern California. Later in his career, he was the Project Director for the American Baptist Homes of the West, an organization that builds retirement homes for ministers, missionaries and other retirees. His wife, Pat, preceded him in death in 2000. He is survived by two sons, Richard and Barry, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Memorial Service / Celebration of Life, will be held at the Wilshire Avenue Community Church, 212 E.
