1932 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Reynolds, Frank E., husband, father and grandfather, died on June 14, 2014, from Lewy Body Disease. He was born in Louisville, KY in 1932, the son of Frank and Lucille Reynolds. He attended school under the direction of the Sisters of Mercy and the Xaverian Brothers. As a youth he enjoyed aquatic sports which led to a lifetime passion for swimming. He attended the University of Louisville and Michigan State University where he earned his BS in Civil Engineering while competing as a college swimmer. He then served in the army for two years. A graduate program at Tulane University brought him to the city of New Orleans where he eventually met and married Ethel Laure DeFraites Reynolds in 1958.

Frank's work in the petroleum-related construction industry took him and his growing family all over the world, including Venezuela, Holland and London. When a job opportunity arose in the sunny state of California, he moved his wife and family of seven children to Orange County in 1972 where he and his family resided thereafter. Frank continued his lifelong love of the water as an original member of a soon-to-be national masters swimming program. He also became an avid ocean swimmer and he and Ethel toured the world so he could compete. He was the oldest person to ever swim the Catalina Channel at the time of his swim in 1987.

The Roman Catholic Church was always an anchor in Frank's life. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, served in a prison ministry and was involved in the restoration of the Mission San Juan Capistrano. His only sister, Norma Jean Reynolds, preceded his passing. Frank is survived by his wife, Ethel, and his seven children, Edward Reynolds (Karin Reynolds), Laura Reynolds (Joseph Schertler), Michael Reynolds (Teresa Frias), John Reynolds (Frances Cadenas), Jeujade Reynolds (Menashe Banit), Robert Reynolds (Kara Reynolds) and Catherine Reynolds Todd (Daniel Todd), and twelve grandchildren.
