Martha Cabrera

Obituary Condolences

Cabrera, Martha Passionate, fun-loving, always-caring, Martha was taken from us May 28, 2010. Born November 27, 1943 in Mexico City, Martha enjoyed an early career as a stewardess for Aero Mexicana. She became an American citizen, initially living in Los Angeles for a short time and eventually settling in Orange County. Adventurous and generous to a fault, Martha knew no bounds when it came to helping others. Juggling a full-time job while single-handedly raising her two young children, Martha was an almost full-time Red Cross volunteer; she continued in that role for over 25 years. Her children grown, Martha pursued her lifelong dream; she joined the Peace Corps and was sent to Panama. It was in Panama that cancer reared its ugly head. Back in the States, Martha began the long process of healing; she worked full-time while undergoing the endless routine of chemo and radiation. After her recovery, off to Mexico she went to build houses in poverty-stricken neighborhoods in Tijuana with our local Corazon organization; Martha gave, and gave, and gave. Fun-loving and adventurous: weekend trips to Rosarito Beach with "the girls" always produced stories of mischief and mayhem. Martha never complained about the constant pain she silently endured. We are all so incredibly fortunate to have shared a slice of Martha's sunshine! Martha is survived by her children, Roque Bower (Huntington Beach) and Alejandra Krueger (Edwards Air Force Base); grandsons, Andrew and Keith Krueger; her brothers and sisters in Mexico; as well as many, many friends. We miss you Martha, you are forever safe in our hearts!
