EUGENE CRAIG "CRAIG" CUNNINGHAM Sr. Obituary
Cunningham Sr., Eugene Craig "Craig"

In loving memory of Eugene Craig Cunningham of Atascadero, California, who passed away on December 10, 2012 at the age of ninety-six. He was born in Hollywood, CA to Frank Lewis Cunningham, O.D., and Helen Virginia Cady-Cunningham, D.O. As a young adult, Craig studied botany at UCLA and had a passion for the outdoors and taking close-up photos of plants. His hobbies were photography, tennis and hiking the Sierra Nevadas. Married to Eileen Patricia Ferguson in 1946, he worked in the sheet metal construction field for 35 years while raising his family of seven children.

In 1976, he and Eileen retired in Atascadero, CA.; their house was built by Craig with the help of several of his sons.

Craig collaborated with botany professors at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo to explore and identify the flora in different regions of SLO County. He was a member of the Audubon Society, Native Plant Society, Nature Conservancy and the Sierra Club.

Married to Eileen his wife for fifty-eight years and widowed for the last eight years, he is survived by 5 sons and two daughters: Gene, Tom, David, Anna Johnston, Rebecca Daugherty, Ed and Mark, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Craig will always be remembered as a loving father, nature lover and conservationist.

His Christian faith in Jesus was renewed in his later years and he believed in the resurrection and eternal life.

Arrangements: The family had a private service at the Chapel of the Roses, Atascadero, CA.
