Rick Keith Rhodes Obituary
Rhodes, Rick Keith, age 61, of Cypress, CA, passed away 11/19/13 in Atascadero, CA surrounded by his loving family at the home of his daughter, Megan Rhodes (Macha). Although he lost his untimely 7-month battle against pancreatic cancer, he lived long enough to give Megan away in marriage on 11/9/13 to Jarrod Macha. Rick joins his other daughter Missy in Heaven who passed from her own battle with cancer in 1999 at the tender age of 18. Rick never recovered from her loss but was blessed with Missy's daughter, Kyla, who was 10 months old when her mother passed and has grown into a beautiful young woman. Rick was born in St. Louis, MO on 6/8/52 to Vera Blanchard and Wilfred Rhodes. The family moved to Cypress in 1963 in one of the first tracts built. He served in the US Army 1973-1975. He then earned a degree in Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona, which led to a 27 year career with McDonnell-Douglas/The Boeing Company, from which he planned to retire in 2013. Loved by countless, Rick embraced the fun life and lived for the next vacation in water or snow. Many memories were had at the top of Mammoth, Lake San Antonio, "The River," and Lake Mojave. Rick's roosters were legendary only topped by the happiness they provided him. An eternal Parrothead since 1994, Rick facilitated annual parking lot parties at Buffett concerts toting his infamous "Shot Ski" from which 4 could toast together. Rick and his wife Dori who met mountain biking in 2000 planned to ride into the sunset with their almost new RV, Jeep, and dog Louie, to create more lasting life experiences with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Dori, Rick leaves behind his adored daughter, Megan (Jarrod); granddaughter, Kyla; brother, Dennis; nieces, Cheryl (Jeff) and Sandy (Oscar); nephew, Curt; grandnephews, Alexa, Justin, Lane and Russell; Missy's "bestie" Erin who was with her to the end; Trish and Gil; and a lengthy list of close friends from The Boeing Company who fondly called him "The Rickster." He was predeceased by his sister, Jean, and her husband, Bob. Rick's ex-wife, Lynette Norton, continues to raise Kyla with her husband, Paul in Paso Robles, CA. Rick was laid to rest in Paso Robles on November 27 near his first beloved daughter, Missy. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, 12/7/2013 from 1-3 pm at the La Palapa Restaurant in Long Beach, where Rick and Dori were married in 2002. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or pancan.org in honor of Rick Rhodes. Rick was honest to a fault, pure of heart, and a dedicated husband and father. He will be missed by so many and loved more than he ever knew possible.
