Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; hard-working, reliable businessman; fun-loving, loyal friend. That's how John Dodson will be remembered by his family, friends and business associates following his passing at age 79 on Saturday, January 18, 2014 after a brief hospitalization.
Born in Duncan, Oklahoma in the teeth of the great depression, John's family moved to Southern California to make a new life. John joined the United States Navy, where he met his wife, Virginia, who preceded him in passing four years ago.
A resident of Orange, California since 1969, John owned and operated Mesa Muffler in Costa Mesa, California since 1966 and it continues to be operated by his son today.
John was known as a steady, loyal, fun-loving friend to all. He loved family outings, Glamis Sand Dunes and the Colorado River were two of his favorites. He loved building buggies at his shop for his family and friends. Stories of his pranks are exceeded only by those of his loving support of family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Owana; his three sons, Duane, Russell, with his wife Arlene, Curtis; two granddaughters, Erin and Emma; and his great-granddaughter, Rose Virginia.
Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, January 24, 2014 in the Waverley Chapel at Fairhaven Memorial Park and Cemetery, 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, CA. 92705.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the
of Orange County.
