JANELLE HARSHMAN Obituary

Harshman, Janelle Louise, 63, of Orange, California, passed away on May 14, 2014, from breast cancer. Janelle was born on July 15, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late Vernon and Evelyn Sorenson. She married her husband, David Harshman, on July 24, 1971, in Columbus, Ohio.

Janelle and David raised four children together in Southern California, and she took great pride in being a home-maker and stay-at-home mom. After her children were grown, she went on to start her own business.

Everybody who knew and loved Janelle was made better by her presence. She loved to organize vacations on the beach and family gatherings at her home with David. Her wit and dry sense of humor could brighten any day. As a 20-year breast cancer survivor, she was able to orchestrate a beautiful life for herself, her children, and her husband.

She is survived by her husband, David Harshman; their four children, Allison, Davielle, Margo and Daniel along with his wife Rosie; as well as her brother, Vern Sorenson and his wife Jennifer and children.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Red Hill Lutheran Church, in Tustin, CA.

I miss you already Janelle! Although we didn't see each other often, every time we did, it was like the distance between visits disappeared. She was funny, smart and took good care of my cousin and their kids! It wasn't easy, but she made it look so easy! I laugh whenever I remember her as a mother of young kids...if they fell or got hurt: "Is there blood? If there's no blood, you're ok!" She was calm, cool and collected always! She loved Dave and her kids fiercely!

She was a great woman in the way she led her life, and a great woman in the way she faced the end of life. She was a great person twice, when most of us never get to be a great anything, not even once. She was lucky.

Janelle was a model of courage, inspiration, and had a big heart for family and friends. A life well lived that I will always remember and treasure her friendship.
