Claire Orlando Ducker Sr.

Claire O. Ducker Sr. of Locust Grove, Virginia, 97, a practicing attorney, died peacefully on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Culpeper Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 7, 1913, in Washington, D.C.

Claire graduated from Central School on June 18, 1931. He was a member of the track team in high school. As a teenager, he won a scholarship to the Preparatory Washington College of Music as a pianist after one year of lessons.

Claire was honorably discharged from the District of Columbia National Guard on October 9, 1932. He graduated from George Washington University Law School. He became a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association in 1944 and later became a member of the Virginia Bar Association. He practiced law in Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland, until his death.

Claire was a member of the Masonic Lodge in the District of Columbia. He became proficient at computer word processing in his eighties. In order to telecommunicate from his home office, he took a computer class at the age of 94 at Germanna Community College. He had a life-long thirst for knowledge and was a teacher to many.

Claire is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan Carroll Ducker; his children, H. P. Ducker of Melbourne, Florida, C.O. Ducker Jr. of Annandale, Virginia, Gail Jones of Melbourne, Florida, Stephen Ducker of Winchester, Virginia, and Wendy Ducker of Saint Thomas, United States Virginia Islands. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Carolyn Ducker, Ginger Otto, Sandie Castle, Brenda Ducker, Camden Ducker, Grant Ducker, and Shelby Ducker; and four great-grandchildren Tim Bell, Ross Otto, Reid Otto and Conrad Otto.

Claire was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Eva Porter Ducker; father, Dr. Orlando Ducker; and sister, Carolyn DeVaughan.

A celebration of Claire's life is being planned for the summer of 2011.
