Lawrence Frank Aquiar of Chico, formally of Orland, passed away peacefully on Dec.5, 2012. He was 83 years old.
Lawrence was born to Frank and Eliza Aquiar on Aug. 21, 1929, in Orland, Calif. He lived and worked his whole life on the olive ranch where he was born. He was forced to move to Chico three years ago because of continuing ill health to be nearer to medical facilities. He graduated with the class of 1948 from Orland High School, where he was student body president his senior year.
Lawrence served on the Board of Directors for Lindsay Olive Growers for the past 20 years. He was an active member of the St. Dominic's Catholic Church where he was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Grand Jury and the Board of Directors for the Orland Fire Department.
He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Johnson, in Feb. 1951, and they had three wonderful children. Family meant everything to Lawrence, and he took an active part in their lives. He coached his sons in little league baseball for years, went water skiing every weekend, and camping in the summer. But most of all, Lawrence would laugh, tease, and hugs were plentiful.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn; son, Gerald Aguiar ( Jennifer) of Orland; daughter, Lauri Leiker (Mark) of Chico; son, Marvin Aquiar of North Carolina preceded him in death; two brothers, Louie and James Aquiar of Orland; a brother George who preceded him in death. Lawrence was blessed with five grandchildren, Heather Cleek of Alturas, Kristin Martin of Orland, Brian Aquiar of Chico, Jessie Aquiar of Washington, and Jacob Aquiar of San Diego. He has seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be held at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Orland on Friday Dec. 14, 2012,
followed by a Celebration Mass at 11:00 a.m.
