Not sure what to say?

Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.

February 28, 2017

I was very young when I met Steve. I remember him pumping gas in a car at his parents grocery store gas station on the corner of Pasadena and Linden Rd. He was one of those young men in those days that stood out from all the rest. I used to ride my bicycle out to Pinewood Downs a horse Stable about 4 blocks passed Steve's parents gas station store. Steve was the best and I all but forgot about him when they sold the stable. Anyways Steve was a Hero to more than just one young boy in his life and this old man will always remember Steve he helped influence me and I never made it like Steve, but he sure help make me a good up standing man that came from Flint. To all Steve's Family and friends. I know you will miss him dearly R.I.P. Steve you will be Missed forever!

I don't remember what post Steve held when I was playing in the Tigers' organization. To be honest, all of those titles ran together and seemed to mean the same thing. The one unique aspect to a minor league front office position, however, is the person who holds it. As a player who finished college a year into my minor league career, Mr. Boros not only allowed me to attend my graduation during the season, he also recognized me for the achievement in front of the entire team. It was a tad embarrassing, I'll admit. But I was very happy to know that Steve felt so strongly that graduating from University was such a positive attribute for the organization and for the individual. He was a layered man, deeper than baseball. I will always care deeply for the memories and experience I had with him.

I just wanted to relay that my 11 year old grandson loves baseball. And today Aug.3, 2014 a lady, who was at a ballgame in July 1961 when Steve Boros hit a foul ball and her father caught the ball, gave that ball to my grandson and he was so happy to get it. He will treasure it always.

Although it is far after the fact I cannot tell you how sad I was to hear of Steve's passing. We first met when he played for Buffalo and kept in contact for several years after that. Steve was a warm and caring person and I will always have fond memories of him.

To the Boros family:
I send my sincere condolences.

Steve was my favorite player since the 1961 season. I had the pleasure of meeting him several times and thought he was such a nice person--very self-effacing and modest. I once took a friend to meet him before a game when he was the third-base coach for Baltimore. My friend said, "I bet Elayne is your number one fan." Steve said, "Beside my family, she's my only fan!" I know that's not true--and I know he'll be deeply missed.

To Boros Family, I was 12 years old working for the Birmingham Barons as a ball boy and also shagged balls in the outfield during batting practice. A very nice young man that played 3rd base always brought out a extra glove for me to use in the outfield. It was Steve Boros and even now as a 64 year old I have never forgotten that special person. My he rest in peace.

To Shar,
I lost track of you two not long after we had dinner in San Diego. I have fond memories of Steve and of our days at Michigan. I used to come out an hour early and throw him batting practice, as he never had enough. He was a class act and a bright, enjoyable person to be around. Marian and I send our love, as belated as this may be. We are now living in Bloomfield Hills after retiring from the ministry in Del Mar.

Shar and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you during this time of difficulty. Not only did Uncle Steve leave a lifetime impression on me with his generosity, kindness and respect for the game of baseball, his passion for the game is an inspiration for Brett and I. As Brett continues to learn the game, I often refer back to my memories with Uncle Steve that will never be forgotten.

I'm stunned-but life has taught me that we are here for such a short time. Steve made the most of it, no doubt. I was fortunate enough to play ball with him in school and retain fond memories. G-d willing, we will meet up again in the dugout.

My deepest sympathy's to the Boros Family. As a young boy who grew up on E. Dewey St., I visited Steve's Dad's store almost daily. Though I'm 10yrs. junior to Steve I used to shag wiffle balls in my neighbors yard, where Steve used to hang out with Mike Bukwas. Jimmy Hill Flint.

Being from Flint I admired Steve as a ball player in my youth, but his real impact on me was as a substitute teacher in the Flint school system in the mid 60s. He was the one I, to this day, hold up as the ultimate teacher (even as a sub) by his "commanding respect" in the classroom and his way to have us talk about current events and his challenging of us to read and research things then form our own opinion based on facts. He got me intensely interested in the JFK assassination as we talked of it for hours on the classroom. I always admired him as a role model, teacher, and great guy. I am very saddened to hear of this. He will always be most highly regarded by me, in fact at age 56 I am thinking about being a teacher, and still bring Steve up as the teacher I want to be most like. That's a pretty good legacy...thank you, Steve.

It is with great sadness that I read about Steve's death. My late husband, Marvin and I were friends of Steve and Sharla and had many good times at baseball games with the KC gang. Sharla and I met at TWA. Steve was a gentle and nice guy. I always loved that he was so down to earth despite his success in a tough business. I am thinking of you all.

Steve Boros was truly one of the most genuine men I have ever met in my life. I did a wallpaper job for Steve and Shayla at their home in Blackhawk years ago when he coached for the A's. They took us out to lunch and also gave us tickets to a game. I was lucky enough to give his son an Eagle feather and Steve & Shayla were overjoyed. Now you fly with the Eagles Steve to look after your family and friends!!!

Kind regards,

My deepest condolences. I always remember Revalation 21:3,4 at times like this. I hope it comforts you.

"With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

Steve, once you walked out onto the field of dreams in Detroit. Green. Grey. Larger than life. Filled with all of those that came before you. You leave this earth and return once again to the field of dreams and you have touched many lives and left your mark forever from young men and women to grown men who honor you this day and the man you were. God Bless and to the Boros Family it is the celebration of live that today we revere as all of the moment known or unknown to others will forever remembered and cherished by all of those that Steve influenced and gave that Boros touch and style. Back in the 1970's and 80's Steve and his wife were customers of mine when I was in banking in Sarasota, FL where they lived. When he was manager of the A's he invited me to Oakland for a weekend series, including and Old-Timers Game. Later when he was with the Orioles we'd see him at Comiskey Park. What great memories of a great individual.

Sympathies to the Boros family. Steve was "class" when he played for the Basin League "Pierre (SD) Cowboys" in his college days and reacquainting during Tigers/Twins games found him as amiable and humble as ever. A true gentleman! Bill Maher, Spearfish, SD

December 31, 2010

I played baseball with Mr. Boros' son, who was also a good friend of mine in high school. Mr. Boros took time to work with many members of our team before school each morning. His generousity allowed for our team to have a great season, and for me make the all-state team, which I will always remember. I will also never forget the time he got my dad, my grandpa, and I tickets to the Royals/Twins game, and even got me a George Brett autograph after the game. He was a generous and great man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

As a child, I sent a request to Steve Boros, c/o Detroit Tigers, Detroit, MI. Several weeks went by before a hand-writen envelope with enclosed picture and personal message arrived from Steve. He thanked me for my letter, saying that he was in Denver but hoped to be called back up soon. Steve was instantly one of my childhood heroes for his personal caring.

THANKS, COACH! Now, I would suggest a mutually reciprocal effort: We all will pray for your family, that through the mercy, promised by Jesus , they receive remedy for their grief, and comfort from their memories of you; and, the other side of the negotiation is that, in turn for the prayers we offer for you, in Gods name, that you put in a kind word and pray for those of us you left behind, that we shall meet again in the Kingdom of the Lord.
