Fletcher, Dean Roger
87. 6/7/26 - 10/11/13. Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Dean graduated from Lakewood High School in 1944 and immediately joined the Marines. He received the Purple Heart
after being wounded during the battle for Okinawa. After his honorable discharge, Dean earned degrees from Kent State University and the University of Miami. He and his wife Katherine moved to Central Florida in the early 1960's, where he began a 45-year career as a CPA. Dean was an active member of First United Methodist Church Orlando for over 40 years. Recently, he attended FUMC of Winter Park with his daughter's family as he was able. He was an avid environmentalist, fitness enthusiast and animal lover. He ran marathons and hiked the Appalachian Trail well into his 50's. A lifelong learner and amateur astronomer, he took classes at UCF during his 60's in physics, calculus and German. He shared his love of classical music with his children and grandchildren. He loved reading books on history, languages, religion, astronomy. The family has cherished memories of summer camping trips to 48 states, Canada, and Mexico; and touring many National Parks and Civil and Revolutionary War battle sites. Predeceased by Katherine, his wife of 44 years. Survived and missed by daughters Dorothea Fletcher, CA; Ruth Anne (Doug) Franke, MN; Jennifer (Craig) Clayton, Winter Park, grandchildren Nicholas and Robert Harper, CA; Danielle and Christopher Franke, MN; Rick, Stephen and Spencer Clayton, Winter Park, sisters Gwenda (Byron) North,TN, and Donna (Don) Turner, SC, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
