age 75 passed away Sunday, April 13th from breast cancer
. Ellen was born on August 22, 1938 in the Bronx, NY. She spent her childhood on Long Island. Ellen graduated high school from Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls school in Hempstead, NY. She then went on St. John's University in Queens, NY and also attended Clark College in Dubuque Iowa and graduated from Loyola University in Chicago. She taught elementary school in Chicago and on Long Island, with second grade being her favorite. "Mrs. Chard" taught 2nd grade at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School in Altamonte Springs, FL from 1982 until she retired from teaching in 2003. After retiring she volunteered with the Adult Literacy League tutoring children in English. She also volunteered for Orange County Public Schools at Lake Weston Elementary. Her volunteer service included the MD Anderson Cancer Center at Orlando Health, ironically on the 5th floor where she would then be treated for her own cancer. During her treatment and illness she touched many lives and was continuously thankful for her care from her doctors, nurses, nurse techs and at home with the wonderful care given to her from Cornerstone hospice. Mrs. Chard is survived by her only daughter, Trish Chard Walsh and her husband Rick of Orlando, her brother Ernie Finan and his wife Glo of Los Osos, CA, nephews Tom Westerman and his wife Carly of Brooklyn, NY and Dan Westerman of Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 526 N Park Ave Winter Park, 32789 on Wednesday, April 23rd at 11am.
