Fred J. Rolf(1922 - 2013)

Rolf, Fred J90, of Longwood passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013. The youngest of 6 children, he was born September 30, 1922, in Pemberville, Ohio, and graduated from Gibsonburg High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946, serving in the European Theater for 18 months, including at The Battle of the Bulge. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Bowling Green State University, and his Doctorate from the University of Michigan. He devoted his career to education, first as a teacher, then as principal of Union Elementary School, then, for 24 years, as superintendent of schools, all in Maumee, Ohio. He was recognized numerous times for his dedication to his profession and his community, including being named "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" by the Maumee Chamber of Commerce, and being honored by the City of Maumee which named Fred J. Rolf Park after him. He and his wife traveled extensively and, in 1990, moved to Florida to be closer to their daughter. Fred is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Janet, his daughter Debbie, both of Longwood, his foster daughter Anne Korakas of Grosse Ile, MI, his brother Herman (Eleanor) of Fremont, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4PM Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 780 N. Sun Drive, Lake Mary, FL 32746. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross.
