Place, Nevin Charles
22, passed away far too soon on September 15, 2013 in Lemoore, California. He was born on April 6, 1991 in Orlando, Florida and graduated from Oviedo High School in 2009, where, as # 82, he was the standout defensive lineman and the captain for the Lions football team. He was an avid athlete and, in addition to football, he particularly enjoyed golfing, basketball, racquet ball, and wrestling. In July 2011, Nevin enlisted in the United States Navy
and completed boot camp at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois the following September. Following boot camp he was stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida for Aviation Structural Mechanic Safety Equipment training. Nevin then reported to "The Stingers" of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ONE THREE (VFA-113) at Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA in May of 2012, where he was serving at the time of his death. Nevin earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designation and served as an F/A-18C Hornet Plane Captain instructor, including service in the Pacific while embarked aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), earning him the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. As a Third Class Petty Officer, he also earned the following awards: the Meritorious Unit Commendation; the Navy "E" Ribbon; the National Defense Service Medal; and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Nevin was a loving father to his eight month old son, Jack Thomas Place, and a loving husband to his wife, Cassandra Lynn Place (Webster). He also is survived by his mother, Carol Ingrid Place; his father, Scott Thomas Place; his brother and best friend, Scott Thomas Place, Jr.; and his grandmothers, Patricia A. Place and Elizabeth Nyland. Nevin made everyone around him cheerful with his constant smile and infectious positive attitude. He was adored by his friends and family, who will forever miss his gregarious, caring nature. A visitation will be held for friends and family of Nevin this Wednesday, September 25, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Saint Stephen Catholic Church, 575 Tuskawilla Road, Winter Springs, Florida 32708. The funeral service will also be held at Saint Stephen this Thursday, September 26 at 10 am. Nevin will be buried at the Oviedo Cemetery with full military honors. For memorial contributions, the family requests donations to Nevin's son, Jack, or flowers for the service.
