Rita Ida Loper

Loper, Rita IdaRita Ida Loper 96, longtime Eustis resident, passed away on September 13, 2016. She was born in Rochester, New York and moved to Eustis in 1929. She was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Eustis giving her time and talents. She worked with them to help build churches in many states. She worked for the University of Florida Agricultural Extension Service as a Home Consultant assisting low income families in the use of commodity foods to prepare nutritious meals for their families. She was well known in the Eustis community and a past Eustis Washington's Day Parade Queen. She enjoyed a life of adventure and travel, the highlights of which were her journey to the Holy Land and river rafting through the Grand Canyon. She was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Women's Army Corp during WWII and a past President of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband Acie Loper; they were married over 50 years. Rita is survived by her children; Rose Loper of Lakebay, WA and Gerald (Nadine) Loper of Altamonte Springs, FL; and her granddaughter Brigitte Loper of Winter Park, FL. The family will receive friends in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Tuesday September 17 from 4 until 6 PM, services will be in the First Baptist Church of Eustis at 11 AM on Wednesday September 18. Private interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis. The family requests memorials be given to Shands Children's Hospital, University of Florida, Gainesville, 352-265-0111.
